The Regal Youth Company was founded by a group of enthusiastic, creative and driven students from Queen Margaret University. We were established after a successful run of community variety shows produced by Kyle McRoberts and Matthew Swan through their double act - George & John.
Five years later, those students are now professionals working in the industry within their chosen fields. We have more members of the team now too from different backgrounds. Our team are professional, fun and approachable. Each staff member understands the values of the Regal Youth Company and are really popular with our participants.
This section introduces you to each staff member and which groups they lead at the Regal Youth Company.
Matthew started attending Firefly Arts aged thirteen and that's where his passion for drama grew. When he was sixteen, he had a life-changing opportunity to produce, write and co-direct his own show. In this, he led a group of peers through the process of creating a show from auditions to set design and running a technical rehearsal. This experience made Matthew realise there was lots more to drama than just acting.
Matthew trained for a year at New College Lanarkshire where he got an NQ in Performing Arts. After this, he studied at Queen Margaret University. During his time at university, his passion for working with children and young people with theatre grew. He graduated with a first class honours degree in Drama and Performance in 2018.
Since graduating, Matthew has developed the Regal Youth Company and also works as a freelance drama practitioner for children and young people. He has worked with companies such as Tribe Porty Youth Theatre, The Performance Academy and Star Harmonies. With Star Harmonies, he is the drama tutor and has directed performances in Peter Pan (MTI Jr), Nativity Play, The Long Winter, Dear Future Me, The Three Billy Goats and The Big One-Oh.

Lisa trained at Coatbridge College where she gained a HND in Acting and Performance. She then took a gap year to save the pennies to move to the good old capital of Scotland. She then studied at Queen Margaret University where she gained a BA Honours in Drama and Performance. It was during this where she found her passion for directing and set up a fringe theatre company Simply Surreal.
After graduating, she set up the theatre company Central Belters, who's aim is to localise theatre within the Central Belt and give more opportunities to working class creatives. Central Belters are currently running an online series called Creative Lockdown to keep everyone creative during Covid 19. You can check Creative Lockdown out here.
